Celebrate the Red, White & Blue with this Patriotic Puppy Chow!
And be warned, this sweet chow is not for your dog — it’s for us, humans! Yeah!
I know it’s a strange name, but let me tell you, one hand full of this white chocolate coated, cake batter dusted, candy studded, crunchy munch, will make you a believer that puppy chow is good for you!
It’s an easy snack to prepare, especially for a hot summer day treat, and it will be gobbled up in no time! You may want to make a double batch to make sure you have enough to nosh on while watching the fire works burst in the night sky!
This week, our weather resistant thermometers will climb to the triple digits every day! Ugh!
When our local meteorologist informed us it’s going to be 105 degrees, well, that just means in my back yard, the red line of my trusty thermometer will reach somewhere around 110 degrees.
Sweltering heat – not what I call fun!
But what is fun is a big bowl of this Patriotic Puppy Chow, extra crunchy and cold because I keep mine in the freezer!
And you can join in on the fun too! With this super simple sweet treat that includes a special ingredient — white cake mix! Yep, it will bring this puppy chow to a whole new level!
Just combine crunchy cereal and melted white chocolate, then dump it into a dusting of white cake mix and powdered sugar and toss in some red and blue pretzel M&M’s along with some white chocolate chips — and you’ve got a festive treat to serve your hungry guests as you celebrate our great nation!

3/4 cup white cake mix (dry from box)
1/4 cup confectioners sugar
1 cup Pretzel M&M’s (blue and red ones only)
1 cup white chocolate chips
Instructions:
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a large bowl, add the cereal then pour the melted white chocolate over and stir until well combined.
Into a large zip lock baggie, add the cake mix and confectioners sugar. Add the cereal mixture and seal the baggie and shake until combined and cereal is coated.
Pour the mixture onto the lined baking sheet and spread out into one layer. Let cool completely then toss in the M&M’s and white chocolate chips. Store in am air-tight container and keep in a cool place – for me I like to store mine the freezer!
Salute the flag with a bowl or two of this sweet and cool Patriotic Puppy Chow!
Have a fun, safe and sweet 4th of July!
